Costumer Testimonials
I have had the 305 and 405 and whilst these are each good products in their personal proper had a handful of brief comings which, for me, the 310XT addresses
It fits nicely in the wrist and is lighter than the 305 and way more comfortable than both the 305 and 405 that both feel a tiny rigid due to the satellite receivers. It has the excellent satellite choose up of the 405. Its waterproof so awesome for swimming and triathlon. The virtual runner shows both time and distance ahead or behind (305 only shows time). You can vary your target pace as you run (like the 405). The screen is hassle-free to see whereas the 405 can be a bit tough. The screens are extra conveniently customisable than the 305 and 405 and has additional selections such as actual speed e.g. 12.5kph when running rather than just pace.
The buttons for scrolling are hassle-free and faultless (the 405 bezzel is a nighmare when wet when it rains or you are sweaty)
It has the ANT wireless and pairs effortlessly with your computer
It doesnt have the pre loaded runs like the 305 such as 10k, half marathon but they take seconds to set up via the custom choice on the watch or instruction software program so they can be reused.
It also has vibrate alerts so you know when a split has been taken or you have started the timer and so on as nicely as the usual beep selection - I didnt feel I would be to bothered by getting it but now Ive utilized it its fairly handy.
Its a bit way more expensive than the 305 and 405 but worth every penny
I have under no circumstances purchased a GPS watch prior to so have absolutely nothing to compare this with. Other reviews appear to say it is an improvement over older models, then again I can only speak from my knowledge of this.
Firstly, I had concerns installing the USB stick driver onto my Pc. Having contacted Garmin help they suggested I turn off or uninstall all my security software program (anitvirus / firewall etc.) and attempt to reinstall. I shut down as lots of programs and services as I could, right after very first disconnecting my Computer from the web, and tried once again, but to no avail. Eventually I found the answer on a forum right after searching on google, and it seems several many people are experiencing the identical dilemma. In the end I had to start off the installation as usual, until my personal computer hung. Then reboot windows into secure mode, to complete the installation, then reboot back into normal mode and begin the ANT system running.
After productive installation it began to upload runs to my Pc with out any situation. Yet, in the final week, the software has now started to error when it initially attempts to upload a run. When I restart the computer software it appears to upload the run effectively, but doesn't continually function successfully, meaning I have lost some of my runs.
As far as the GPS goes, this is not great either. Final week I ran near my residence, but by the time I had walked (a couple of minutes) to exactly where I was going to commence, the watch had not identified the satellites, so I began running anyway. 3-quarters of a mile later the watch had found the satellites. I'd been running in an open park region, and there were no trees or buildings that should have blocked the signal. Also, when viewing runs on the laptop soon after having uploaded them, there are from time to time small gaps exactly where it looks like the watch has lost the GPS signal, and from time to time the recorded route seems to differ wildly for short distances from where I've truly run. In addition to this the inclines and declines recorded appear to be way out in areas (even though I'm not certain if it gets this facts from the maps, or GPS). Unfortunately, all this tends to make me question how correct the distances are it is telling me that I've run.
Getting stated all that, the GPS receiver appears to operate better when I've run in places outside my hometown, so maybe I'm just unlucky with where I reside!
I do nevertheless like the notion of the device, and what it tries to do, and in spite of the above, I assume most of the time it is pretty accurate with the details it really is telling me. I'm organizing on operating my initially marathon this year after beginning running 5 years ago, and getting able to evaluation the runs I've performed, and use the watch to aid pace myself over the miles has been certainly useful. However, for the value that I paid for this item, I would anticipate it to operate close to perfectly, all of the time, and for me it really is too glitchy. Hence I can only give it 3 stars.
UPDATE August 2011: Getting made use of watch for nicely more than a year now, I would like to update my rating from three stars to four stars. I feel my initial troubles with installation and obtaining utilised to using the device lowered my initial opinion. Despite the fact that still not ideal (from the perspective of choosing up satellites rapidly - even though as pointed out by other individuals it is fine if you wait until you have them just before beginning), I have discovered and applied a lot of more of the beneficial instruction features, and found this overall to be an great education help. I also use it for cycling now, and the feature that enables you to upload and follow your route removes all the hassle from navigating in areas you are unfamiliar with.
